Punjab: Committee demands reconstruction of broken roads
Punjab: The poor condition of roads in villages around Patiala has once again come into the limelight and has led to the formation of a ‘Sadak Sangharsh Samiti’. The committee is pressuring the government to rebuild the badly damaged road connecting dozens of villages to the Patiala-Patran main road. The committee members, which include government school teachers who pass through these roads every day, submitted a protest letter to the CM, Patiala Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav and other ministers, highlighting the plight of residents who have been travelling through these roads for years.
The committee members emphasised that the Ghagga-Brahmanmazra Road Unpaved Road has become worse than the Kachchi Road, causing inconvenience to the locals. Despite an assurance by the Patiala SDM last month to resolve the issue, no concrete steps have been taken to repair the road. The committee members criticised both the Centre and the Punjab government for ignoring the needs of the rural communities. He highlighted that while ample funds are being allocated for irrelevant projects, the infrastructural needs of the villages are being ignored. If the condition of the road remains poor, the committee plans to intensify its protest by organising residents.
