Chandigarh: Garbage cess may be imposed on Section 26 units
Chandigarh: The Market Committee is going to impose garbage tax on all the buildings located in the grain, fruit and vegetable market located in Sector 26. According to officials, the rates are being finalized for this, after which the committee will collect the tax and use it in further garbage management. A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of the Committee Administrator. Opposing the proposal, the commission agents said that they are already paying 2 percent market committee fee and oppose this additional burden. Officials said that the committee will soon issue instructions after finalizing the tax rates for the buildings under it in Sector 26. Earlier, the tax was collected by the Municipal Corporation in the grain market. This tax was likely to be Rs 300 per trader per month. The committee has to pay about Rs 920 to the Municipal Corporation per ton of garbage. 20 to 25 tons of garbage comes out of the market every day.
