Punjab: Cleanliness drive launched at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore

Punjab: The district administration on Tuesday launched an intensive programme to improve water supply and sanitation services in 176 villages. Officials of various departments were asked to ensure that the grant of Rs 6.50 crore under the second phase of Swachh Bharat Mission is utilized to enable dignified living for the rural population of Malerkotla. DC Pallavi said that senior officers of the government have been sensitized about the need to successfully execute projects under Swachh Bharat Mission.

The meeting was held under the supervision of ACP Gurmeet Kumar Bansal. The ACP advised the personnel to coordinate with the sarpanches and panches of various villages to achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus status for the district. Bansal said that a plan has already been prepared for the construction of 268 toilets at a cost of Rs 40.20 lakh. The ACP said that community sanitation complexes will also be set up in 62 villages at a cost of Rs 86 lakh. Apart from this, Executive Engineer Gurwinder Singh Dhinsa said that projects worth Rs 1.16 crore have been prepared for the management of solid waste in rural areas and projects worth Rs 3.59 crore have been prepared for the disposal of liquid waste.
