Himachal: Empowering women, showcasing the culture of the state
Himachal Pradesh: Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh inaugurated the 10-day Himira Saras Food Festival at the historic Ridge, which aims to economically empower women from self-help groups and enhance their livelihoods. Organised by the Himachal Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission and the state’s Rural Development Department, the festival celebrates local culture, creativity and culinary traditions as well as promotes artisans and entrepreneurs. “This is the third edition of the festival and it has been well received by locals and tourists,” Singh said. He informed that 20 food stalls featuring a variety of Himachali cuisine and cuisines from other states have been set up in line with the tourist season.
Singh said inviting participants from other states promotes inter-state cooperation, provides a platform for sharing information about handicrafts and handloom, thereby improving livelihoods. The festival features a vibrant display of handmade items, including handbags, clothing and accessories, at stalls located at the Ridge and the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. Throughout the day, visitors were seen enjoying a variety of flavours and buying unique handmade items. This initiative underlines the government’s commitment to support local artisans and empower women through self-help groups, as well as promote cultural exchange and economic development. The festival is an important step towards enhancing rural livelihoods and promoting tourism in the region.
