Bihar resident lynched in Kerala, eight arrested

Thiruvananthapuram (IANS) | Rajesh Manjhi, a native of Bihar, was beaten to death at Kizhiseri in Malappuram district of Kerala. His body was found near a shop on Saturday morning. Police said that a native of Bihar, who had reached Malappuram as a daily wage earner, died of mob lynching. Malappuram District Superintendent of Police Sujit Das told media persons on Sunday that it was a clear case of mob lynching and the police have arrested eight accused.

The police officer said the suspects told the police that they had found Rajesh in suspicious circumstances near a man’s residence in the early hours of Saturday. The local people caught hold of him and interrogated him.

The Superintendent of Police said that people used iron rods, wooden sticks to attack Rajesh Manji. According to the police, the accused dragged him to a room. After some time one of the accused informed a local social worker. The workers who reached the spot took Rajesh Manjhi to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police probe found that all the eight accused were involved in beating up Manjhi. Manjhi’s hands were tied and he was assaulted.

Police have arrested eight people and are questioning a person who allegedly destroyed evidence, including a local CCTV camera, as well as deleted messages from the phones of the accused.
