Maestro AR Rahman, who has earned immense fame in the world of Indian music, recently revealed interesting things about his spiritual journey and his adoption of Sufism in a podcast. It is known that Rahman was born in a Hindu family named Dilip Kumar Rajagopalan in Madras, and later converted to Islam under the influence of Sufism. Now he himself has explained the reasons for this change. In the podcast hosted by Nikhil Kamat, Rahman said, “I have read about all religions, including Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. I do not like persecuting others in the name of religion at all. Every music venue where we come together for entertainment feels like a holy place to me. People from different religions and languages ​​​​come together through music.”

Rahman expressed his attraction towards Sufism. “Sufism is like dying before you die. Emotions like pride, greed, jealousy have to die. Only when these veils are removed do we gain qualities like transparency, love, and kindness,” he said. No matter what religion we follow… in the end, only faith, honesty, and good deeds matter. If there is spiritual well-being, material well-being also comes naturally,” he said. When asked why he chose Sufism, he said that no one is forced to convert to the Sufi path. It is a decision that comes from the heart. For me and my mother, it seemed like the right path spiritually. We are musicians… This path has given us more freedom,” he clarified.

AR Rahman is currently working on various films. Currently, AR Rahman is composing music for the film ‘Peddhi’, which is coming in the Ram Charan – Janhvi Kapoor combination.
