The Assam cabinet has released Rs 250 crore for Bodoland development schemes

Guwahati: The Assam cabinet has approved a financial package of Rs 250 crore for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) under the state-owned Priority Development Fund (Rural) for the year 2025-26.
This allocation is expected to boost infrastructure, rural livelihoods, and socio-economic initiatives in the strategically important and sensitive BTC region of Assam.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Officials said the funds will support rural infrastructure projects, improve connectivity, enhance civic amenities, and strengthen public service delivery in the BTC areas, reflecting the government’s commitment to maintaining peace under the Bodoland Territorial Region agreement.
The cabinet stated that targeted financial assistance is crucial for inclusive development in the region, which has witnessed significant progress in recent years.
Under environmental action, the cabinet approved the designation of two wetlands in the Goalpara district as proposed reserved forests under the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891.
Kumari Beel, spanning 270 hectares, and Dhamar Beel, covering 337 hectares, will be protected to conserve biodiversity in these ecologically sensitive areas.
Recognizing sporting achievements, the government appointed Simu Das, a member of the Indian women’s blind cricket team that won the Women’s T20 Blind World Cup, as a physical instructor under the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare.
This move aims to honor her achievement and inspire young athletes across the state.
On security infrastructure, the cabinet approved the transfer of 607 bighas of government land for a new Group Centre of the Central Reserve Police Force at Kareng Chapori in Dhemaji district.
Under the state’s land rights initiative, Mission Basundhara, land allocation was approved for 308 families, providing legal security and resolving long-standing disputes. The session concluded with the approval of land for the upcoming ammonia-urea project, the foundation stone of which will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 21.
This project is expected to boost fertilizer production and support industrial development in Assam.
