Assam: Man from Numjang village dies in hit-and-run, people burn tyres on NH-27

Guwahati: A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Gadayn Raji, under the Mahur police station limits in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
The incident occurred on Friday, sparking tension among residents in the area.
The victim, identified as Seiminhao Lhangum, a resident of Numjung village, was hit by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. He died instantly from his injuries.
The incident sparked outrage, with residents gathering at the scene and blocking National Highway 27 (NH-27), halting traffic for several hours. Protesters reportedly set tires on fire, causing a long traffic jam and stranded vehicles.
Police and district officials arrived at the scene to control the situation, and more security forces were deployed to prevent further disruption.
An investigation is underway to identify the vehicle involved.
The authorities assured strict action against those responsible and appealed to the public for cooperation while the investigation continues.
