Iranian Women Are Lighting Cigarettes From Burning Khamenei Photos
In Iran, which is gripped by unrest, a majority of people, including women and youth, are protesting against the government on a large scale. However, this movement is now taking on a new trend. Many young women are smoking cigarettes and burning pictures of Iranian leader Ayatollah Khamenei. They are sharing photos and videos of this on social media. Through this, they are expressing how tired they are of Khamenei’s rule and how much they are opposed to him.
Khamenei has been in power in Iran since 1989. During his rule, he imposed severe restrictions on women there. He used to take severe action against women who did not follow his orders. In terms of dress and morality, he imprisoned and tortured many young women in the name of moral policing. In 2022, a 22-year-old woman named Mahsa Amini was arrested and tortured to death in the name of moral policing. Since then, anger has been building among women there. However, Khamenei has ruthlessly suppressed them. Now.. Iran’s economic situation has deteriorated badly for some time. The depreciation of the currency, the increase in the prices of essential goods, corruption, harassment, and high unemployment have led to youth agitation against Khamenei’s regime. If necessary, they even want Khamenei to be eliminated.
Similarly, the people of Iran are chanting slogans demanding the rule of Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah who ruled before the Islamic regime. No matter how much the police suppress them, the protests are not stopping. Dozens of civilians have already died. Some police officers have also lost their lives. However, the protests continue. Women and youth are removing their veils and wearing modern clothes. They are smoking cigarettes and even burning Khamenei’s photos. These have now gone viral on social media. However, Khamenei is warning that strict action will be taken against those who are protesting, and if necessary, the death penalty will be imposed.
