Nagaland: Mimkut festival concludes in Maowa village
Nagaland: The two-day Mimkut Festival in Maowa village concluded on January 17, 2026, with the unveiling of the Mimkut Monolith by special guest I. Himato Zhimomi, Principal Secretary, Geology & Mining, P&NG, Science & Technology. The ceremony was attended by Chief Host L. Singsit, President Kuki Inpi Nagaland, ADC Meziphema P. James Swu, government officials, village leaders, and the general public. The monolith was dedicated by Rev. David Vaiphei, Executive Secretary, KCCNS.
In his speech, Himato thanked the Kuki community for attending the event and praised the Kuki community and the organizing committee for successfully showcasing their rich cultural heritage and traditions through the festival. He emphasized the importance of the Mimkut celebration and recalled the long-standing relationship between the Kuki community and his family, dating back to 1964, with the first MLA, Lamkam, and his father, former Minister Iheze Zhimomi. He appealed to the community to protect their land, emphasizing its economic and environmental importance. Noting its strategic location along a four-lane highway and a new railway line, he emphasized the importance of its proper use for sustainable development. He prayed for peace and prosperity for the Kuki community through the festival.
On the second day of the festival, groups from Molvom, Kuki Community Meziphema Town, Zuikhu Village, Kuki Union, and Khaibung presented cultural performances, including gosem displays and dances. The program was compered by Nekhomang Hsing and Chongboi Singson. Rev. Simang Haokip offered prayers, and L. Singsit delivered the welcome address, Lulen Kholho delivered the vote of thanks, and Pastor Ngambom Hsing of KBC Maowa delivered the closing prayer.
