Kerala Man Dies by Suicide After Video Goes Viral on Social Media

A man committed suicide after a video of him allegedly touching a woman indecently on a bus went viral on social media. The incident, which took place in Kozhikode, Kerala, has become a hot topic of discussion.
Deepak (42) from Govindapuram village in Kozhikode district was travelling in an RTC bus on Friday (January 16). At the same time, a woman named Shimjitha had posted a video on her social media account alleging that he had misbehaved with her and another woman. In the video, Deepak was seen touching the woman’s body with his elbow in a crowded bus. The video went viral on social media. The video has received more than 20 lakh views.
When the video of him touching a woman indecently went viral, Deepak was deeply upset after seeing it. His family members, who noticed this, encouraged him. However, Deepak, feeling that his honor had been lost, committed suicide in his room. When they tried to wake Deepak up around 7 am on Sunday, he did not open the door for a long time. So, they broke the door hard and went inside and found Deepak dead. His family members and close friends are alleging that Deepak committed suicide because of the video posted by Shamjita. “That video has devastated Deepak. Don’t post videos without knowing the truth. Don’t play with anyone’s lives,” Deepak’s close friends requested.

Many netizens who saw the video that went viral are also supporting Deepak. They are of the opinion that he accidentally touched the woman due to the crowd in the bus.. but not intentionally. However, Shamjita has denied those comments. She clarified that Deepak touched her intentionally.
“While going to Payyanur, I noticed a woman feeling uncomfortable in the bus. A man was standing very close behind her. I noticed that and took a selfie video. He was silent for a long time after noticing that. Later, when the bus became crowded, he came close to me again. Then I took another video. I put both of them together and posted them on social media,” he said. However, he said he did not expect the man to commit suicide.
Rahul Easwar, who is fighting to set up a commission for men’s rights, responded to the incident. He demanded that a case be registered against the person who posted the video on social media for inciting suicide. He said that he has filed a complaint with the Kerala Chief Minister’s Office and the DGP’s office in this regard. He called for a fight against those who create false content now so that this does not happen to anyone else in the future. With this, this issue has now become a topic of discussion on social media.
