Amit Shah said that Rahul Gandhi insulted the Northeast by not wearing a ‘gamusa’ at the Republic Day event.

Assam: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 30 accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of insulting the Northeast by refusing to wear the traditional Gamosa (a traditional Assamese scarf) at the President’s ‘At Home’ reception on Republic Day.

Addressing a public meeting at Khanikar Parade Ground in Dibrugarh, Shah claimed that President Droupadi Murmu had presented the Gamosa to the dignitaries attending the event, and all the guests, including foreign representatives, wore it as a mark of respect.

“Rahul Gandhi was the only one who refused to wear the Gamosa,” Shah alleged, adding that doing so was an insult to the culture of the Northeast.

“Rahul Gandhi can do whatever he wants, but as long as the BJP is in power, it will not tolerate any insult to the culture of the Northeast,” the Union Home Minister said.

Shah also accused the Congress of neglecting the development of Assam during its rule. “I want to ask Rahul Gandhi what his party has given to Assam besides guns, bullets, conflict, and the deaths of young people,” he said.

Furthermore, Shah alleged that the Congress had used illegal immigration as a “weapon of vote bank politics.” Claiming that the situation has changed under the BJP government, he said, “Since the BJP came to power, there has been no infiltration in Assam. Those who have illegally entered the country will be identified and sent back.”
