Child dies after falling into a borewell in Puri
Odisha: A tragic incident occurred at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital on Friday afternoon when a one-and-a-half-year-old girl fell into an open borewell and died.
The deceased has been identified as Samaira Nayak, daughter of Ajay Nayak of Mangala Sahi in the Narendra Kona area. She had come to her uncle’s house in Rai Bahadur Lane, near the hospital.
Reports indicate that a borewell was dug for the construction of the new hospital building, but it was left open. Samaira accidentally slipped into the borewell while playing near her uncle’s house, adjacent to the construction site.
Family members and nearby residents rushed to her rescue, but she could not be saved. The incident has spread shock and grief in the area.
People have raised serious questions about safety measures at the construction site. Concerns arise about whether adequate precautions were taken to prevent such accidents, especially in a public place like the hospital campus.
Police confirmed the death and launched an investigation. The authorities are expected to investigate the responsibility of the open borewell and ensure strict safety protocols at the construction site.
