Tamil Nadu: Rain likely in South Tamil Nadu till March 1

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has stated that rainfall is expected in South Tamil Nadu and the Western Todarchi Hills districts until March 1.

The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to weaken further into a low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining central Bay of Bengal on Monday (February 23) morning. As it moves northeastward, it is likely to weaken further.
In this situation, due to the existing low-level circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea off the southern Kerala coast, isolated moderate rainfall is expected over South Tamil Nadu and the Western Highlands districts and adjoining districts from Tuesday (February 24) until March 1.
Rainfall: The highest rainfall in Tamil Nadu in the last 24 hours was recorded at 40 mm in the Sankarankovil area of Tenkasi district. Perunchani Dam (Kanyakumari), Sivalokam, Kuzhithurai, Surulakodu, Puthan Dam – 30 mm each, Gayatharu (Thoothukudi), Palmore (Kanyakumari), Tirupathisaram, Chittaru, Sivagiri (Thoothukudi), Kovilpatti (Thoothukudi), Kalgumalai (Thoothukudi), Ayikudi (Thoothukudi), Egumalai (Madurai) – 20 mm each.
Fishermen’s Warning: A cyclonic storm with wind speed reaching 60 kmph is likely over northern parts of southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining southwest-central-east-central Bay of Bengal.
