Tamil Nadu: Flight Diverted in Trichy Due to Bad Weather; Safe Landing in Madurai

Tamil Nadu: Flight operations in Tamil Nadu were disrupted on Saturday evening due to adverse weather conditions. Strong winds and incessant rain affected landings and takeoffs at Trichy Airport, necessitating the diversion of one private aircraft and one commercial passenger flight.

According to reports, an IndiGo flight arriving in Trichy from Hyderabad was carrying 149 passengers. The flight was scheduled to land at Trichy Airport around 5:00 PM on Saturday evening; however, weather conditions at the time had deteriorated significantly. Citing safety concerns amidst the strong winds and rain, the pilot decided to divert the flight.

Consequently, the aircraft was diverted and landed at Madurai Airport instead of Trichy. Despite the heavy downpour, the flight executed a safe landing, bringing a sigh of relief to all 149 passengers on board. Thanks to the coordinated efforts between the airline and Air Traffic Control, no untoward incidents occurred.

Meanwhile, another international IndiGo flight bound for Singapore from Trichy was also impacted by the inclement weather. This flight was scheduled to depart at its scheduled time of 6:45 PM but was delayed due to the adverse conditions. It eventually departed from Trichy Airport at 8:55 PM—approximately two hours behind schedule.

According to the Meteorological Department, the region was experiencing heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, which also resulted in reduced visibility. Consequently, extra precautions were exercised during flight operations.

Airport officials stated that under such circumstances, passenger safety is accorded top priority, and flights are diverted to the nearest safe airport whenever necessary.

While passengers faced some minor inconvenience following this incident, all flights remained safe. The airline kept passengers informed about the situation and provided necessary assistance.

As weather conditions improved, flight operations at Trichy Airport gradually returned to normalcy. Officials have urged passengers to check their flight status before traveling during periods of adverse weather.
