Chennai Central–Thiruvananthapuram high-speed train rerouted, to operate via Kottayam on May 15 and 22

Tamil Nadu: Southern Railway has announced a temporary change in the operation of the high-speed express train from Chennai Central to Thiruvananthapuram. This change will be effective on May 15th and 22nd. The Railways stated that this decision was made due to engineering maintenance work to improve the safety and technical condition of the railway line.
According to an official notification issued by the Railways, train number 22207, which runs between Chennai Central and Thiruvananthapuram, will operate on a specially diverted route on Fridays, May 15th and 22nd. On both days, the train will depart via the Kottayam route around 4 pm.
Due to this change, the train will no longer pass through Ernakulam and Alappuzha stations as usual. Keeping passenger convenience in mind, the Railways has arranged for alternative stoppages. Under the revised route, the train will now stop at Ernakulam Nagar, Kottayam, and Chengannur stations.
According to railway officials, this change is intended to ensure safe and timely completion of track maintenance and technical improvement works. During the engineering work, rail line repairs, signaling system inspections, and other necessary technical improvements will be made, ensuring safer and smoother train operations in the future.
To ensure passengers do not face any inconvenience due to this temporary change, the Railways has issued prior notice. Passengers are requested to check their train routes and timings before traveling. The Railways states that this change will only be applicable for two specified dates, after which normal train operations will resume.
Southern Railways has also clarified that after the completion of the maintenance work, the speed and safety of trains will be improved. Such technical work is regularly carried out to make the railway network more modern and safe.
While this decision will result in temporary route changes on major railway routes in South India, the Railways claims that this will provide a more convenient and safe travel experience for passengers in the future.
