Fuel shortage in Odisha’s Thuamul Rampur, pumps ‘run dry’

Thuamul Rampur: A “fuel shortage” has disrupted normal life in Odisha’s remote Thuamul Rampur block. Reports indicate that two petrol pumps have been “dry for over a week,” forcing residents to travel long distances for fuel.

This crisis has angered residents in the tribal-dominated area, where residents rely heavily on vehicles for daily commuting and agricultural purposes. An outlet at the block headquarters and another fuel station in Gunupur have reportedly run out of stock, leading to massive crowds at nearby fuel stations.

However, Tehsildar Satya Sanatan Panigrahi said the situation has improved and fuel is available at the pumps. He said, “The shortage was a thing of the past week,” and added that action will be taken against black marketing.

However, the owner of the Rampur fuel station said over the phone that the outlet has been “out of stock for a week despite placing new orders.”

Locals alleged that fuel was being sold illegally at higher prices in remote areas, although there was no immediate official confirmation.

People appealed to the administration to restore regular fuel supplies and ensure proper monitoring to prevent black marketing.
