Better connectivity will boost tourism and strengthen the local economy: MoS

KHONSA : Union Minister of State (MoS) for Road Transport & Highways, Ajay Tamta said that the central government continues to support Arunachal Pradesh through initiatives such as the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund and several major infrastructure projects being executed by the NHAIDCL.

He said that “the roads being built today are designed to meet the aspirations and requirements of a developed India by 2047.”

Addressing the gathering at the concluding function of the three-day golden jubilee celebration of the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) here in Tirap district on Sunday, the union minister emphasised that robust road infrastructure is key to unlocking opportunities and improving livelihoods.

Referring to projects such as National Highway 13, Tamta noted that enhanced connectivity would boost tourism, strengthen local economies and contribute significantly to the state’s development.

The union minister congratulated the Transport Department and the APSTS for completing five decades of dedicated service to the people.

He commended the APSTS for serving as a lifeline for countless communities, particularly in remote and challenging terrains, and highlighted the crucial role of transportation in driving economic growth and social progress.

Tamta also flagged off three new APSTS buses for Tirap district, symbolically honouring Khonsa’s historic role in the evolution of Arunachal’s public transport system.

Speaking on the occasion, Member of Parliament Tapir Gao lauded the Transport Department for achieving this historic milestone.

Stressing the importance of safety and service quality, Gao advocated regular training for drivers, conductors and mechanics to ensure efficient and safe transport services. He commended the APSTS for its unwavering commitment to the people, and expressed confidence that the organisation would continue to grow stronger in the years to come.

In a major announcement, Transport Minister Ojing Tasing declared the construction of a new bus terminal in Khonsa as a golden jubilee gift to the people of Tirap district. He said that the project would stand as a tribute to Khonsa’s unique place in the history of the APSTS.

Tasing also highlighted the distinct transportation challenges faced by hilly states, and stressed the need for region-specific transport policies. He informed that, besides the existing 18 bus stations, several more transport infrastructure projects are currently under development across the state.

Thanking the MoS for his presence, he expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by the Government of India towards Arunachal’sdevelopment.

Representing the aspirations of the people of Tirap district, Borduria-Bogapani MLA Wanglin Lowangdong appreciated the Transport Department for choosing Khonsa as the venue for the landmark celebration.

He underscored the importance of strengthening road connectivity in the region, and appealed for construction of a modern bus station to replace the existing five-decade-old structure.

Lowangdong also requested for introduction of luxury buses for Tirap district as a fitting golden jubilee gift for the people.

Speaking on the occasion, APSTS General Manager Mito Dirchi expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, officers, public representatives and citizens whose support contributed to the success of the celebration. He also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the district administration, police personnel and various departments for ensuring smooth and secure conduct of the event.

During the colourful cultural event in the evening, cultural troupes representing the Wancho, Nocte, Tutsa, Tangsa and Ollo communities captivated the audience with their vibrant performances, while local talents including ‘K Town Girls’ and ‘The Trend’ added energy and excitement to the celebration.

The highlight of the evening was the performance by Rishi Singh, winner of ‘Indian Idol Season 13’, whose electrifying musical show drew loud cheers from the crowd and brought the golden jubilee celebration to a memorable close.

MLAs Chakat Aboh and Wanglam Sawin, the transport commissioner, the transport director, and other government officials, besides the Tirap ZPC, GBs, community leaders and members of the public were present at the concluding ceremony.
