Traveling without ticket becomes expensive, Railways increases fine, strict action is also taken on platform rules

Tamil Nadu: The railway administration has significantly revised the fines for ticketless travel and violations of railway regulations. According to officials, the fine imposed by ticket inspectors has been doubled compared to previous rates. This new system came into effect on June 20.

Under the new system, passengers traveling without a ticket face higher penalties. Previously, passengers caught without a ticket had to pay a fine of ₹250; this has now been increased to ₹500. This rule has been implemented particularly on electric trains, where enforcement has been tightened to curb ticketless travel.

Officials stated that action has been intensified not only against ticketless travel but also against violations of other rules concerning railway stations and platforms. Individuals entering station premises without a platform pass are now also subject to a doubled fine.

Furthermore, stricter measures have been taken against unauthorized vendors selling goods on railway platforms. New rules apply specifically to vendors selling bottled water and other items; those found violating the regulations are being charged the increased fine.

According to officials, fines for ticketless travel on express trains have also been doubled. While such passengers previously faced a fine of up to ₹600, the amount can now reach up to ₹1,620. The fine amount may vary depending on the distance traveled and specific circumstances.

The railway administration states that the objective of these stricter rules is to curb ticketless travel and instill greater discipline within the railway system. Another key goal is to control illegal activities on platforms and trains.

Officials also clarified that only authorized individuals would be permitted to enter station premises. Those arriving without a platform pass will be closely monitored, and immediate fines will be imposed for any rule violations. The Railways has appealed to passengers to purchase valid tickets before traveling and to adhere to all regulations. Officials believe that this will not only provide better facilities for passengers but also ensure smoother and safer railway operations.
