Odisha: Tight security arrangements in the capital and Puri on Devsnan Purnima
Odisha: Anticipating a large gathering of devotees on the occasion of Lord Jagannath’s Devasnan Purnima, the Commissionerate Police has made extensive security and traffic arrangements for the capital, Bhubaneswar, and Puri. The police have deployed additional police forces and implemented special traffic arrangements to ensure a peaceful, safe, and orderly religious event on Monday, June 29th.
According to information released by the Commissionerate Police, security arrangements have been strengthened at major Jagannath temples and areas frequented by devotees during Devasnan Purnima. A total of seven police sections, including women police personnel, have been deployed at major religious sites in the capital.
These include major temples such as the ISKCON Jagannath Temple in Bhubaneswar, the KIIT Jagannath Temple, and the Sudarshan Darupeeta in Balakati. Police personnel will be continuously present at all these locations to ensure the safety of devotees, crowd control, and maintain law and order.
In addition, all station in-charges and related police personnel in the Commissionerate area have been assigned special duties at the Jagannath temples and religious sites within their jurisdictions. Each police station area has been instructed to ensure additional surveillance and security arrangements, depending on local conditions.
Police officials stated that senior police officers will inspect various locations throughout the event and continuously monitor security arrangements. Additional forces will also be deployed if necessary to address any untoward situation.
A large number of devotees are expected to arrive in Puri to attend the darshan and rituals of Lord Jagannath on the occasion of Devasnan Purnima. In view of this, a special traffic management plan has been implemented on the Bhubaneswar-Puri route. The police aim is to ensure smooth movement of devotees and avoid traffic jams.
The Commissionerate Police stated that PCR vans and police mobile teams will continuously patrol the entire route. Additional traffic police personnel have been deployed at sensitive and crowded locations to ensure smooth traffic movement and avoid any disruption.
To ensure effective traffic management, special vigil will be maintained at major intersections, temple routes, and parking areas. If necessary, traffic may be diverted through alternative routes to minimize inconvenience to devotees and the public.
The police have appealed to devotees to strictly adhere to traffic advisories and police instructions issued during the pilgrimage. They are urged to maintain patience in crowded areas and cooperate with security arrangements, ensuring a peaceful religious event.
In view of security, people have also been requested to immediately report any suspicious activity, suspicious person, or unattended object to the nearest police officer or the relevant police officer. The police stated that public cooperation will play a vital role in making security arrangements more effective.
The Commissionerate Police has clarified that all necessary steps have been taken to maintain law and order during the religious event. Various police wings will work in coordination for crowd control, traffic management, and security arrangements.
Devsnan Purnima is an important religious ritual held before the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, in which a large number of devotees participate every year. Keeping this in mind, the administration and police have implemented extensive security and traffic arrangements this time too, so that devotees can have a safe and smooth darshan.
The police have appealed to the public for cooperation and have asked that all devotees follow the guidelines issued by the administration and not pay attention to any rumors.
