Southern Railway changed the route of many express trains, due to track maintenance, the impact will remain for 13 days.

Tamil Nadu: Southern Railway has announced temporary rerouting of several express trains from Chennai to the northeastern states due to proposed track and technical maintenance work in the Eastern Railway zone. According to the railway, some trains will operate on alternate routes instead of their regular routes on the scheduled dates. Passengers are advised to confirm their train information before travelling.

In a press release issued on Monday, Southern Railway stated that track and technical maintenance work will be carried out in the Eastern Railway zone from July to September. During this period, some trains will be diverted from their regular routes to allow for safe and smooth operation of the maintenance work.

According to the Railways, the Nagore-Chilkat Town Express (Train No. 15629), departing from Tambaram station at 6:40 pm on July 6, 13, 20, and 27, August 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31, and September 14, 21, and 28, will operate via Asansol, Andal, and Scindia instead of its regular route. Similarly, Train No. 15630, running from Chilkat Town to Tambaram on these dates, will also operate via a diverted route and arrive at Tambaram.

Additionally, the New Tinsukia Express (Train No. 15929), departing from Tambaram at 6:40 PM on July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, August 6, 13, 20, and 27, and September 3, 10, 17, and 24, will be operated via Asansol, Andal, and Scindia instead of the regular route.

The Railways clarified that this change will only be applicable for the specified dates. No changes have been announced to train schedules, but the route change may affect stoppages and operational arrangements at some stations. Passengers are advised to check their train’s official website, helpline, or the relevant station before traveling.

Southern Railways states that track and technical maintenance work is essential for the safety and smooth operation of the railway network. Such work is carried out periodically to ensure safe and smooth train operations and reduce the likelihood of future technical problems.

According to railway officials, trains will continue to operate using alternative routes during the maintenance work, preventing passengers from experiencing travel cancellations. However, some operational changes are possible due to the rerouting, so passengers are advised to plan their travel in advance.

These trains from Chennai to the northeastern states are used by a large number of passengers. Therefore, the Railways have requested passengers to confirm their train’s route and other necessary information before traveling on the scheduled dates.

Southern Railway has stated that trains will resume operating on their regular routes after the maintenance work is completed. Currently, only temporary changes have been made to the routes of the announced trains on the respective dates. Appealing for passenger cooperation, the Railways has stated that this step has been taken to maintain the safety and quality of rail services.
