Applications for part-time BE engineering course till July 12, 1,400 seats in 8 colleges

Tamil Nadu: The Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) has announced the launch of the application process for admission to the part-time B.E. engineering degree program for working professionals. Interested candidates can apply online until 5 p.m. on July 12th. The course duration has been extended to three years from this academic session.

A press release issued by the Directorate on Monday stated that this part-time engineering degree program is designed for working professionals and professionals who wish to pursue their technical education while working. The program will be offered at various government and government-aided engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.

The program is available at six government engineering colleges and two government-aided engineering institutes in the state. These government-aided institutes include the College of Technology in Coimbatore and the Thyagaraja College of Engineering. The course will also be offered at government engineering colleges in various cities, including Coimbatore, Salem, Tirunelveli, Pakur, Vellore, and Karaikudi.

According to the Directorate of Technical Education, only those candidates who have at least one year of work experience in the relevant field or are currently employed in an institution, industry, or company will be eligible for admission to this course. Candidates must submit a certificate of work experience or current service issued by their employer along with the application.

Online applications for this admission process began on June 15th. Interested candidates must complete the application process within the stipulated deadline. The department has clarified that applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.

Under the part-time BE degree program, admissions will be offered this year in major disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). These courses aim to provide employees working in industries with an opportunity to enhance their technical skills.

The Directorate of Technical Education stated that a total of 1,400 seats are available in these eight institutions this year. The department hopes that a large number of working professionals will take advantage of this opportunity and advance their careers by pursuing higher technical education.

A significant change has also been made to the part-time BE Engineering program, starting with the 2026-27 academic year. The duration of this degree program has now been fixed at three years, compared to the previous three. The department states that the revised duration will ensure a more systematic and effective delivery of the program, providing a better educational experience for students pursuing their studies while working.

The Directorate has urged candidates to carefully review all eligibility, required documents, and admission guidelines before applying. Any errors or incomplete information in the application form may impact the admission process.

The Technical Education Department states that this program is particularly useful for employees who wish to obtain an engineering degree without leaving their jobs. The department hopes that this initiative will enhance the qualifications and skills of technical professionals working in the state and provide more trained human resources to industries.
