Odisha Cabinet approves OSDC 2.0, giving a boost to digital governance

Odisha: In a major step towards strengthening digital infrastructure, the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved the proposal to establish the Odisha State Data Center 2.0 (OSDC 2.0). This decision was taken to meet the state’s growing digital needs and to make the e-governance system more secure and modern.
According to the state government, the existing State Data Center has been operational since 2011 and currently handles over 600 government applications serving the needs of 39 departments. With the increasing data load and demand for digital services, the existing infrastructure has become limited in capacity, necessitating the need for a new and upgraded data center.
The government has clarified that this is the reason for the need for OSDC 2.0. This new data center will be compliant with Tier-III standards, secure, scalable, and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. It aims to meet Odisha’s rapidly growing digital governance needs and make government services more reliable.
With the creation of OSDC 2.0, the state government is placing a special focus on enhancing the efficiency and stability of digital services. This project will migrate all existing critical applications to the new system. Cybersecurity measures will also be strengthened to protect government data and effectively address any cyber threats.
The government also stated that the project will develop a robust disaster recovery system to ensure the continuity of government services in the event of an emergency. This will significantly improve the availability and reliability of e-governance services.
OSDC 2.0 will be developed at a total cost of ₹268.44 crore. This investment is considered a significant step towards the state’s digital future. The government believes that this project will help establish Odisha as a strong state in the field of digital governance.
According to officials, almost all government services today rely on digital platforms, such as certificate issuance, land records, welfare scheme benefit distribution, and other citizen services. Consequently, the capacity and security of the data center have become crucial.
The government has stated that OSDC 2.0 will not only be a technological upgrade but will also help make governance more transparent, faster, and effective. This will enable citizens to access government services in a simpler and more accessible manner.
Experts believe that this project will accelerate digital transformation in the state and lay a strong foundation for future technological needs. It will also enhance Odisha’s capabilities in cybersecurity and data management.
The government has directed the implementation of the project to begin, and a detailed construction plan will be prepared in the coming months.
