Indore: Municipal commissioner inspected several areas and issued strict instructions

Madhya Pradesh: Continuous rain has caused waterlogging in many parts of Indore city. Taking this situation seriously, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Commissioner Kshitij Singhal inspected various waterlogged areas on Friday and directed officials on the spot to take immediate remedial action.

During the inspection, the Commissioner visited several major and busy areas, including Bombay Hospital, Lasudia Mori, SR Compound, Panchavati Colony, Malviya Petrol Pump, LIG Square, Palasia Square, Khajrana Square, Radisson Square, Robot Square, and Ring Road. These areas experienced waterlogging due to the rain, causing significant inconvenience to traffic and local residents.

During the inspection, a serious problem was identified in the SR Compound and Panchavati Colony areas. Ongoing private construction work had damaged the stormwater drains. This prevented proper drainage of water in the area, leading to severe waterlogging.

In light of this negligence, the Municipal Commissioner ordered the immediate halt of construction work. He clearly instructed that strict action be taken against any construction being carried out without permission or in violation of regulations. He also instructed officials to identify the responsible individuals and take legal action against them.

Commissioner Kshitij Singhal directed the engineering and municipal officials present on the site to immediately repair the drainage system in the affected areas to prevent further problems. He also stated that damaging the drainage system during any construction in the city is a serious negligence and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

In addition, instructions were given to prioritize the repair of roads affected by sewer line work. Repair work has been immediately initiated in areas where roads were damaged. Municipal teams have arrived on the scene and are engaged in drainage and road repair work.

Due to the continuous rainfall in Indore in recent days, waterlogging has been reported in many low-lying areas. This has disrupted traffic and hindered local residents’ daily activities. The Municipal Corporation is now reviewing the drainage system to permanently resolve these problems.

The Municipal Commissioner also directed officials to regularly monitor the drainage system at major intersections and busy roads in the city. He emphasized that any negligence during the rainy season should not cause inconvenience to the public.

According to experts, urbanization and rapid construction are disrupting natural drainage routes in many areas, exacerbating the problem of waterlogging during the rainy season. Strengthening the drainage system and controlling illegal or uncontrolled construction is therefore crucial.

The Municipal Corporation has also indicated that in the coming days, a survey of all major drainage systems and drains in the city will be conducted to identify deficiencies and address them promptly.

Overall, the Municipal Corporation has adopted a strict stance in response to the waterlogging in Indore after the rains. After the inspection by the Commissioner, immediate repair work has been started at many places and preparations for taking action against those who are negligent have also been intensified.
