Haryana CM visits Punhana; announces development schemes.
The BJP has signaled a major move to expand its reach in Mewat, an opposition stronghold. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini promised to transform the region during a massive rally in Punhana.
The event marked a political shift in Nuh district, as Chaudhary Javed Khan—son of suspended Congress MLA Mohammad Ilyas—organized the ‘Mewat Vikas Sankalp Rally’ and shared the stage with the Chief Minister. Khan’s role in setting the stage for the BJP highlights the party’s aggressive bid to establish a strong foothold in this Meo-Muslim dominated area.
However, the absence of a key party leader also became a talking point amidst the enthusiasm. Union Minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh, whose constituency includes Nuh, did not attend the rally. This marks another instance of the Ahirwal leader skipping a Chief Minister’s event; he had previously missed a District Grievance Committee meeting in Gurugram. While his team cited poor health as the reason for his absence, party insiders believe it signals internal discord within the state unit.
Addressing the gathering after being honored with a traditional turban, Saini stated that Mewat—once synonymous with political neglect—is now entering a new era under the “double-engine” government. “In the coming years, when the story of Haryana’s development is written, people will remember Mewat as a region that changed history,” he said. He emphasized that the task of nation-building is as much linked to Punhana, Ferozepur Jhirka, and Taoru as it is to Delhi.
He highlighted the recent recruitment of 1,494 teachers under the Mewat cadre. Challenging critics to find even a single instance of bribery or political influence, he noted that 32 local candidates from Punhana alone secured jobs based on merit. Focusing on the opposition, he attacked the Congress, alleging that the party is exploiting the youth due to a lack of genuine issues.
State Industries Minister Rao Narbir Singh spoke about industrial development around IMT Sohna and assured local residents that the upcoming units would prioritize providing jobs to local youth.
