Major change in the Student Credit Card Scheme
Ranchi. The Jharkhand government has decided to provide significant relief to economically disadvantaged students pursuing higher education. During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday, important amendments to the ‘Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme’ were approved. These changes will reduce the financial burden of education loans on students, enabling a greater number of them to pursue higher education.
According to the cabinet’s decision, the requirement for a five percent margin money contribution on loans up to ₹15 lakh under the Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme has been abolished. This will primarily benefit students who previously struggled with the costs of higher education due to financial constraints.
The government believes that education is the most effective means of improving a student’s future. Many talented students miss out on higher education due to a weak financial background; the changes to the scheme were made with this issue in mind.
Students will no longer be required to deposit five percent of the amount from their own pockets when taking out a loan. This will alleviate the additional financial burden on students and their families. The government aims to ensure that no student is forced to discontinue their studies due to a lack of funds.
Another significant decision was taken during the cabinet meeting: the fees paid by students for the first semester or first year at the time of admission will now be reimbursed in a lump sum via a web portal. This will relieve students of the difficulties associated with initial expenses.
Previously, many students faced financial hurdles when paying fees at the time of college admission. Now, the government will facilitate fee reimbursement through an online process, making the procedure more transparent and convenient.
A total of 53 proposals were approved during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. These included several key decisions related to education, development, and public welfare. The government stated that the objective of these decisions is to provide better facilities to the state’s citizens and strengthen the future of the youth.
