25-year-old Son River water dispute resolved; agreement reached between Jharkhand and Bihar.
New Delhi: A dispute spanning 25 years between Jharkhand and Bihar regarding the sharing of the Son River’s water has finally been resolved. A historic agreement to this effect was signed by the two states in Delhi on Monday in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. With this agreement, the allocation of the Son River’s water has now been finalized.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil was also present on the occasion. Resolving this long-pending issue is being hailed as a significant achievement for both states.
Water Allocation Finalized
Under the agreement, Jharkhand will receive 2 MAF (Million Acre-Feet) of the Son River’s water, while Bihar will receive a share of 5.75 MAF.
