Dehradun. The Uttarakhand government is preparing to implement a new system for doctors pursuing post-graduation (PG) at government medical colleges. Under this arrangement, doctors completing their PG studies will be mandatorily required to serve in state government hospitals for at least two years. The government’s objective is to address the shortage of specialist doctors in the state’s hospitals.
The shortage of specialist doctors has long been a major challenge in the state. The availability of specialists is particularly limited in hilly and remote areas. In light of this issue, the government is amending its rules to ensure that the state’s health institutions can utilize the services of specialist doctors trained at government medical colleges.
Under the new system, doctors completing their PG studies at government medical colleges will have to work in state hospitals for a stipulated period after finishing their specialization. The government believes this will provide patients in state hospitals with better treatment facilities and expand the reach of specialist services.
According to Health Department officials, the people of the state should benefit from the specialist services of doctors who have received their medical education using government resources.
