Jobs of thousands of teachers in Bihar at risk; Tejashwi Yadav writes to CM Samrat Chaudhary

Patna. The politics of the state has heated up amid the crisis over the jobs of thousands of employed teachers and Urdu-Bangla special teachers in Bihar. Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has written a letter to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary demanding to ensure service security of teachers. Tejashwi Yadav, citing an order of the Supreme Court of July 2026, has expressed apprehension that due to this, the jobs of untrained teachers appointed after 2015 and Urdu and Bengali special teachers appointed in the year 2015-16 may be in danger. He has demanded the Chief Minister to immediately intervene in this matter and file a review petition in the Supreme Court. Tejashwi Yadav has also shared his letter on social media platform X.
Tejashwi Yadav raised serious questions in the letter written to the Chief Minister
Tejashwi Yadav wrote a letter to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on October 17, 2026, expressing concern about the jobs and future of thousands of teachers in the state.
He said that after the order of the Supreme Court in July, a serious crisis has arisen on the services of the employed teachers of Bihar and the untrained teachers appointed after 2015.
Especially there is confusion between the Urdu and Bengali special teachers appointed in the year 2015-16.
Tejashwi Yadav says that these teachers have served in schools for years. In such a situation, the fear of losing their jobs has created uncertainty for teachers and their families.
He has appealed to the state government to protect the interests of teachers and take effective steps at the legal level.
The appointment process of teachers started in the year 2014.
Tejashwi Yadav has mentioned the appointment process of Urdu and Bengali special teachers in his letter.
He says that these teachers were not appointed under any new recruitment process, but under the planning process that started in the year 2014.
He said that these teachers were appointed during the year 2015-16 in compliance with the relevant departmental orders and pre-determined procedure.
According to Tejashwi Yadav, if the appointment process had started earlier, then it would not be appropriate to keep these teachers within the scope of termination merely on the basis of the date of appointment being after March 31, 2015.
He has demanded the government to take a decision based on the actual circumstances of the appointment process and related documents.
Trained and passed competency test teachers should get protection
Tejashwi Yadav said that among the affected teachers, there are many who have received necessary training after appointment.
Apart from this, a large number of teachers have also passed the competency test. Some of these teachers are currently serving as special teachers, head teachers or school teachers.
He raised the question that service security of teachers who have received the necessary training and passed the prescribed examinations should be considered.
Tejashwi Yadav has demanded from the government that the status of teachers who have completed D.El.Ed training, passed the competency test and those appointed through the recruitment process of Bihar Public Service Commission should be reviewed separately.
He says that these teachers should be given proper legal protection keeping in mind their qualifications and years of service.
Demand to file review petition in Supreme Court
Tejashwi Yadav has demanded from Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to make effective legal advocacy before the Supreme Court in this matter.
He said that the state government should consider filing a review petition in the apex court, so that the position of the affected teachers can be clarified.
Tejashwi Yadav believes that it is necessary to place before the court the facts related to the appointment process, training, qualification and service period of teachers.
However, the legal interpretation of the concerned order and its actual impact on the service of a teacher will be determined only on the basis of the court order and the applicable service rules.
Do not hold teachers responsible for missing records
In the letter written to the Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav has also raised the issue of missing planning related records and administrative shortcomings.
He said that if there is any deficiency in the maintenance of documents related to the appointment process, then the responsibility of the concerned officers should be there.
It would not be appropriate to punish teachers for such administrative mistakes.
Tejashwi Yadav has demanded from the government that in cases where necessary documents are not available, an impartial investigation should be conducted and accountability of the responsible officers should be fixed.
He said that it is necessary to adopt a sensitive and equitable approach in matters related to service security of teachers.
The issue of Urdu-Bangla teachers has also been raised before.
The issue of service security of Urdu and Bengali special teachers has come up earlier also.
On October 4, 2026, Bihar Legislative Council member Qari Mohammad Shoaib had also written a letter to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary demanding protection of Urdu-Bangla teachers from the process of termination.
Referring to an October 1 letter from the Director of Primary Education, he had requested to review the cases of these teachers separately.
Shoaib had also said that the appointments of the concerned teachers would be made in the year 2014.
