For months Prigozhin played a key role in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He recruited thousands of people from Russian prisons into his Wagner Group. Wagner forces have reportedly crossed into Russia’s large southern city of Rostov-on-Don from occupied eastern Ukraine. The Wagner Group claims that it has taken over military areas here. President Putin says that this is a difficult situation, but he will take every step to protect Russia.
