Husband jailed after 36 years for wife’s suicide, brother-in-law also punished, this decision for sister-in-law and step-daughter

Kanpur. Husband was sentenced to seven years and brother-in-law to five years for abetting suicide in Kanpur. Both were fined Rs 20,000 each. In the case which lasted for 36 years, the sister-in-law and the son-in-law were declared acquitted and acquitted. The accused mother-in-law had died. ADGC Arvind Kumar Dimra Hamirpur resident Dhanad Tripathi married daughter Urmila Devi in 1967 to Vishnukant, son of Sitaram Pandey, resident of Kachhiyana. After marriage, Urmila is being harassed for dowry. He was assaulted. Five years later, his daughter’s jewelry was snatched away. A suit for alimony was filed on this. In 1985, the in-laws assured to keep the girl happy. On this Urmila went to her in-laws house. Even after that the girl continued to be harassed. On November 20, 1987, information about Urmila’s death came from her in-laws. Urmila died due to hanging. Father filed a murder report against Urmila’s husband Vishnukant, mother-in-law Janak Dulari, sister-in-law Rajni Mishra, brother-in-law Pandey. Brother-in-law was accused that even after living in another house, he used to come and harass Urmila. It was alleged that Vishnukant Pandey had married another during the litigation around 1980. The second wife was also involved in this scandal. On the basis of Tahrir, the police had filed a report against Vishnukant, Janak Dulari, Rajni, Asha and Srikant. The mother-in-law died during the deliberations. The second wife appeared in the court and clarified that she was married to Vishnukant because of having a child from Urmila. He did not have any quarrel with Urmila. According to the ADGC, the court sentenced Vishnukant to seven years, his brother Srikanth, who retired from the bank, to five years for abetment to suicide on the basis of evidence and witnesses.
