Tomato farmer killed in Andhra Pradesh
Amaravati (IANS). A tomato farmer was killed for robbery in Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh. Narem Rajasekhara Reddy (62) was killed on Wednesday at Bodimalladine village in Madanapalle mandal.
Police suspect that he was murdered on Tuesday night when he was going to the village to deliver milk. The assailants restrained him, tied his hands and feet and strangled him to death with a towel.
A farmer living in a field far away from the village was going to the village to deliver milk. His wife told the police that some unknown people had come to the farm on the pretext of buying tomatoes. When she told them that her husband had gone to the village, they left.
It is being told that the farmer has recently earned Rs 30 lakh by selling tomatoes in the agricultural market. The murder is suspected to be linked to this. The police is probing whether the farmer had any money or not.
Police said they are probing the matter from all angles. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kesappa said four teams have been formed to crack the case.
Police deployed a sniffer dog as part of the investigation. The dog went through the place of occurrence till the house of the deceased.
The police suspect that 3-4 people have committed the murder together. Superintendent of Police Gangadhar Rao also visited the spot and spoke to the victim’s family members.
The farmer is survived by his wife and two daughters. Both the daughters are married and live in Bangalore.
