Bihar: Mahananda river wreaks havoc, village engulfed in flood
Monsoon is wreaking havoc on people in Bihar. The rivers are in spate due to heavy rains and the rivers have started swallowing the houses. Talk about Kajal Bhaswa Toli village of Purnia, where Mahananda river has swallowed more than 300 houses so far. As soon as the rainy season comes, people’s homes start getting ruined. People build their dream house by earning whole life with hard work. People eagerly live considering the house as the temple of life, but every year people’s hopes are dashed. People become Trahimam-Trahimam.
Mahananda river wreaked havoc
Due to continuous rains in the border areas of Bihar-Bengal including Terai of Nepal, river erosion continues in subdivision areas due to rise and fall of other rivers including Mahananda, Kankai and Parman. Let us tell you that 14 houses have been cut and merged into Mahananda river in Kajal Bhaswa Toli village, Ward No. 12, under Sugamhanandpur Panchayat of Baisi block of Purnia district. About 15-20 houses are now under threat of erosion.
village engulfed in flood
The existence of Bhaswa Toli village is in danger due to river erosion. The havoc of the Mahananda river continues for three years. People’s houses and agricultural land have been submerged in the river. The administration has no senses or should say that the administration is also just waiting for the existence of the village to end.
What does the head representative say
In this case, the head representative, Rashid Reza told that the river erosion is happening continuously since last three to four years. In my panchayat last year 100 houses were cut into the river and merged, but no one from the administration to the people’s representative has come to peep till now. I had prepared the smallest estimate of four to five places under MNREGA. In which an estimate of 36 lakhs was prepared. In this matter, on April 8, 2023, application has been given to flood control and water drainage, Purnia. Had also met the District Magistrate and DDC. The District Magistrate and DDC assured that this work will be done by the department. At the same time, the work has not been done by the department even in time. Whose negligence is this?
