Tomato made millionaire, farmer got profit of 1 crore in a month
Mumbai. Amid rising tomato prices across the country, a tomato farmer in Maharashtra’s Pune district has hit a jackpot. Tukaram Bhagoji Gaykar and his family have earned over Rs 1.5 crore by selling 13,000 crates of tomatoes in a month. Tukaram has 18 acres of agricultural land and cultivates tomatoes on 12 acres with the help of his son Ishwar Gaykar and daughter-in-law Sonali. The family said that they grow good quality tomatoes. His knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides helps him ensure that his crop is safe from pests. According to a report in India Today, a Narayanganj farmer earned Rs 2,100 a day by selling a crate of tomatoes. Gaikar sold a total of 900 crates on Friday, earning Rs 18 lakh in a single day. Last month, he sold tomatoes at Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,400 per crate. Let us tell you that many farmers are growing tomatoes in Junnar, a city in Pune district. Most of them have become millionaires. The market committee there has done a business of Rs 80 crore in a month by selling tomatoes. This has also provided employment to more than 100 women of the area. Tukaram’s daughter-in-law Sonali handles tasks like planting, harvesting and packaging. His son Ishwar handles sales, management and financial planning. The hard work of the last three months has paid off. They have experienced favorable market conditions. The maximum price of a crate of good quality tomatoes was Rs 2,500 i.e. Rs 125 per kg in the market of Jhunnu Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Narayanganj. The talk of farmers becoming millionaires by selling tomatoes is not limited to Maharashtra only. A family of farmers from Karnataka’s Kolar sold 2,000 boxes of tomatoes this week and returned home with Rs 38 lakh.
