Woman drinking coffee on terrace, extremely rare astronomical event happened.
New Delhi. In an extremely rare astronomical event, a French woman was hit by a meteorite while having coffee on her terrace with her friend. According to the French newspaper Les Dernieres Nouvelles d’Alsace (DNA), the woman had a mysterious pebble embedded in her ribs. The woman was quoted as saying, “I heard a big ‘poom’ from the roof next door. A second then, I felt a blow to the ribs. I thought it was some animal, a bat!” He said, “Later it turned out to be like a piece of cement, but it had no colour.” He got the rock examined by a local roofer, who described it as a meteorite. Subsequently, he had the rock examined by geologist Dr. Thierry Reubmann, who confirmed its extra-terrestrial origin. The local paper quoted Rebmann as saying that the rock appeared to be a mixture of iron and silicon and could be a meteorite. The report states that the pieces of meteorite that have been recovered weigh more than 100 grams. The geologist said that the incident of people colliding with such objects is extremely rare. Meteoroids are “space rocks” that remain and hit the ground in their journey through Earth’s atmosphere. Meteorites range in size from dust particles to small asteroids. According to NASA, about 50 tons of meteoritic material is estimated to fall to Earth every day. Rebmann was quoted as saying, “In our temperate climate, it is very rare to find them.” “They tend to merge with other elements. In desert environments, on the other hand, we can find them more easily.” The first confirmed case of a meteorite hitting a person directly occurred in 1954 in the US, where a woman was hit by a meteorite containing a 3.6 kg stone that crashed through her roof, seriously injuring her.
