Army foils infiltration bid in Poonch, two terrorists killed
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, the Indian Army has foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control. Along with this, the army also killed two terrorists. The body of a terrorist has been recovered from the spot. At the same time, another terrorist was seen falling into the Poonch river after being shot. This joint operation was launched by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on the intervening night of July 16-17 in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district. Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the spot. Vigilant jawans on the LoC noticed suspicious activities of crossing the LoC towards India near Poonch river, after which this operation was started.
An army spokesperson said personnel of the army and Jammu and Kashmir police have set up multi-layered anti-infiltration posts to prevent infiltration of terrorists and their escape.
The officer said the encounter started late in the night and two terrorists received gunshots. “One terrorist fell on the spot while the other terrorist was seen falling in the Poonch river,” he said.
Army’s White Night Corps tweeted, “Operation Bahadur in Poonch sector. An infiltration attempt was foiled during a joint operation by Army and J&K Police in Poonch sector last night. Two infiltrators killed.”
The spokesman said that efforts are on to find the body of the terrorist who fell in the river. He said that an AK-74 rifle with magazine, ammunition used in war including 11 cartridges and other explosives have been recovered.
The army has also released a ‘thermal image’, in which infiltration attempts can be seen.
The spokesman said that the security forces along the Line of Control are on high alert and fully prepared to foil such attempts in future also.
