Bijnor police busts illegal call center, 3 arrested
Bijnor (IANS). Najibabad police station of Bijnor district of UP has arrested three vicious accused of cheating by opening fake call centers. Police said that most of the call centers used to cheat people on the pretext of providing antivirus solutions and technical support.
A team of Najibabad police station led by Inspector Radheshyam raided the call center being run from Waseem’s house in Mohalla Wahidnagar Samrat Wali Gali, Najibabad following a tip-off. During the raid, the police arrested Naman, Imran alias Ansh and Sameer Mansuri. During this, the team seized 7 laptops, 6 mobile phones, 9 credit cards, 2 debit cards, 2 Aadhaar cards and Rs 94,500 in cash from the spot.
City Superintendent of Police Dr. Praveen Ranjan said that we got information that a fake call center duped many people on the pretext of providing technical support. These youths were employed in the call centre, which was being operated without a license issued by the Department of Telecom.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were involved in cyber fraud. For this, by obtaining foreign numbers, obtaining personal information of people from social media, calling foreign numbers with the help of calling software, they used to mislead people in the name of providing anti virus, solution and technical support.
The officer said that the matter is under investigation. The involvement of others in this cannot be ruled out. An FIR has been registered at Najibabad police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the IT Act.
