Congress attacks Center over Manipur violence, says BJP MLAs are telling Biren Singh government involved in it
New Delhi (IANS). The Congress on Saturday hit out at the BJP for the caste violence in Manipur, saying that now its own MLAs are saying that N. The BJP government led by Biren Singh is involved in this.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “BJP’s own MLAs in Manipur are saying Biren Singh Govt is involved.” He attached an opinion piece alleging the same to Manipur BJP MLA Paolinlal Haokip.
Ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur on 3 May and since then over 100 people have lost their lives. While thousands of people have been forced to take shelter in relief camps.
Even a video of two women being paraded naked by a mob in Manipur on 4 May went viral on 19 July. This act is being condemned all over the country. According to reports, the Congress is demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak on the Manipur issue inside Parliament and immediate removal of the chief minister and imposition of President’s rule in the northeastern state.
On the first two days of the monsoon session of Parliament, the opposition parties have raised the issue of Manipur. On Thursday, the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, the Prime Minister expressed grief and anger over the incident in Manipur, saying that the gruesome incident with women in the northeastern state is extremely shameful and can never be forgiven.
He said that ‘this incident is an insult to the entire country, as it has brought shame to 140 crore countrymen. What happened to the women in Manipur can never be forgiven. I assure the countrymen that no one will be spared.
However, he also added incidents of violence in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh in his statement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that whether the incident is from Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh or Manipur, the guilty should not go unpunished in any corner of the country.
