‘Appatha’ 700th film of actress ‘Urvashi’ who ruled cinema for four decades
Thiruvananthapuram (IANS). Even after four decades, veteran actress Urvashi is collaborating with filmmaker Priyadarshan for a Tamil film ‘Appatha’. She continues to be strong in the film world. Tamil release ‘Appatha’ is his 700th film.
When asked about his achievement, his humble response was, “I never realized it and I came to know about it from the media.”
Talking about her latest release ‘Appatha’, she said that when director Priyadarshan told me about the role in the film, I was a bit skeptical as he was saying that it is about a mature character. But, when the story was told, I felt I could.
In his four-decade-long acting career, mostly in Malayalam-Tamil and other South Indian languages and Hindi films, he has credited his success to his directors.
Urvashi said, “Even though I grew up watching and listening to plays, my father was a drama actor. But, my success in films is largely due to the directors who molded me and I am grateful to all of them.”
She was one of the most sought after actresses in the eighties after starring opposite all superstars like Mammootty, Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi. His career took an early hiatus in the 2000s.
Her marriage with popular actor Manoj K.Jayan lasted for a few years. Later she married a businessman.
In his acting career, he has won one National Film Award, five Kerala State Film Awards, three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards (South).
