New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Tuesday said that judges and lawyers should conduct themselves in a manner that inspires confidence about the independence and integrity of the legal process. He also requested the lawyers to approach him if they have any complaints.
According to Live Law, at the Independence Day celebrations organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association, Justice Chandrachud said, “Judges and lawyers should conduct themselves in a manner that instils confidence about the independence and integrity of the legal process… I can assure you I assure that every complaint, every letter sent to me and even addressed on social media instead of me, is dealt with by me only. But I request the lawyers, if you have any grievance don’t go outside the court, being the head of your family I am sitting here to sort it out.”
He said, “The things that I can do on my own, I will do with the help of my colleagues. But some things will require engagement with the government and I will try to find a solution.”
On the occasion, the CJI also said that the Supreme Court would expand its infrastructure to add 27 additional courtrooms, four registrar courtrooms and more facilities for lawyers and litigants. He said that in order to revamp the judicial infrastructure at the earliest, the Supreme Court is planning to construct a new building to accommodate additional court rooms and other facilities.
The CJI said, “We need to improve judicial infrastructure at the earliest. We plan to expand the Supreme Court by constructing a new building for 27 additional courtrooms, 4 registrar courtrooms and adequate facilities for lawyers and litigants.” are planning.”
Referring to PM Modi’s Independence Day address, Justice Chandrachud said, “The Prime Minister in his speech at the Red Fort today mentioned the efforts of the Supreme Court to translate judgments into regional languages. Till date 9,423 judgments have been translated into regional languages.” has been carried out.”
Significantly, PM Modi praised the Supreme Court and said that the apex court is appreciated for taking the step of translating key parts of the judgments into regional languages.
