Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz retires from international cricket
Lahore (IANS). Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, bringing an end to his 15-year career. However, he will continue to play franchise cricket around the world.
Pakistan team’s left arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. Along with his fast pace, this bowler is also famous for showing his sharp attitude on the field.
Wahab retired with 237 wickets in over 150 matches for Pakistan since making his international debut against Zimbabwe in 2008.
He played 27 Tests, 91 ODIs and 36 T20 matches for his country. During this, he had 83 wickets in Test cricket, 120 wickets in ODIs and 34 wickets in T20.
The 38-year-old played his last international match against New Zealand in late 2020.
Wahab said, “I have been talking about my retirement plans for the last two years, as I said 2023 is my target to retire from international cricket and now I feel more comfortable than ever that I have completed my retirement plan. Has given the best service to the country and the national team.
“It has been an honor to represent Pakistan on the international stage. As I bid adieu to this chapter, I am looking forward to embarking on a new journey in franchise cricket.”
The left-arm pacer has appeared in the three most recent editions of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and managed an impressive five-wicket haul for Pakistan against arch-rivals India in Mohali in the semi-final stage of the 2011 tournament.
