Indrani Tahbildar Suicide Top Of Agenda At Assam BJP Core Committee Meet
The suicide of Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Indrani Tahbildar was top of agenda at the party’s core committee meeting held at Guwahati’s Vajpayee Bhawan on Monday. The meeting, chaired by Assam BJP chief Bhabesh Kalita, was attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, among others.
Though the party is tight-lipped about the issues discussed at the meeting, top sources within the party said several internal issues which the party is facing on the state-level were discussed by the core committee. According to a source, various controversies that emerged recently following the suicide of Indrani Tahbildar were discussed threadbare.
The core committee deliberated that all party leaders and workers should maintain decorum inside and outside the party as otherwise it is putting the party in bad light.
The core committee also decided party leaders will hold a ‘Sampark Abhiyan’ from the first week of September, in order to reach out to senior party leaders.
It may be mentioned that, a few weeks back, former Union Minister Rajen Gohain, resigned from his cabinet rank post expressing discontent with the delimitation process and other issues. Following this, the party in Assam witnessed an internal conflict, which many dubbed as clash of ‘old BJP’ karyakartas and ‘new BJP’ karyakartas.
It also invited interference of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who met Rajen Gohain in Delhi and the latter briefed him on the circumstances which led Gohain to step down from his cabinet rank post.
Though Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal did not make any comments to media on the developments of the core committee meeting, state president Bhabesh Kalita said that issues concerning the 2024 elections were discussed and the BJP is confident of winning all the seats.
