Bengal school recruitment case: ED seeks clarification from officer on downloading personal file
Kolkata (IANS). In the West Bengal school recruitment case, the Enforcement Directorate has expressed strong objection to one of its officers downloading personal files from the computer. The officer had downloaded some personal files from a computer during a raid last month in West Bengal.
Sources said that top ED officials have sought an explanation from the officer concerned. Private files were downloaded from a corporate entity’s computer during the search operation. That too from a computer that comes under the purview of central probe.
The sources further said that the top brass of the agency is unhappy with the whole development. They are of the view that such irresponsible action on the part of the officer has not only diluted the seriousness of the matter but has also caused a lot of embarrassment to the central agency.
Following a complaint lodged by an employee of the said corporate entity in this regard, the Cyber Crime Division of Kolkata Police has already initiated an investigation into the matter.
The ED had told the city police that one of their officers downloaded 16 personal files from the computer of the said corporate entity. The files were related to the search for a hostel for his daughter. Who has recently taken admission in a reputed engineering university.
The ED has also clarified that the file downloading related to the hostel was done after the raid and search operation was over. This was done under CCTV surveillance and in the presence of independent witnesses present there along with the employees of the company. The two independent witnesses present there included a Deputy Manager and an Assistant Manager of Punjab National Bank.
