Bribery chief engineer sentenced to 4 years imprisonment, Raipur court sentenced

Raipur: Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department (Ambikapur) Brijraj Das Vaishnav has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment by the court of Special Judge Ajay Singh Rajput. The criminal chief engineer had asked for a bribe of Rs 50 lakh in lieu of payment for the anicut built on the Rain river, after which the applicant had complained about it to the Anti Corruption Bureau and the ACB team arrested the chief engineer by taking Rs 5 lakh as advance amount. Was arrested red handed.

This entire matter was complained to ACB by Vineet Singh, Proprietor M/s Vineet Singh Construction Pvt. Ltd. The applicant had told the ACB that his company had received a contract worth about Rs 17 crore 62 lakh for building an anicut in the Rain river. In which 13 crores work had been done and the supplementary work was about 5 crores 34 lakhs, in which the payment of about 1.50 crores was stopped by the applicant and in lieu of this payment, a bribe of 50 lakhs rupees was demanded by the chief engineer.

The court of Special Judge Ajay Singh Rajput sentenced the accused to 3 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, additional imprisonment of 6 months for non-deposit of the amount and Section 13 (1) D read with Section 13 Under (2), he has been sentenced to 4 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 and in case of non-payment of the fine, an additional imprisonment of 6 months.
