Colonel accused of murder of woman in Dehradun confessed to the crime, told the police the whole truth of that night
Dehradun (IANS). No matter how clever a criminal is, he always leaves behind some clue behind his crime. In the sensational blind murder case of Dehradun, Lieutenant Colonel Ramendu Upadhyay also made the same mistake and the police solved the murder mystery of a woman within just 24 hours.
The body of a woman was found lying on the roadside in Raipur area of the capital Dehradun on Saturday. Disclosing this case, the police said that the accused of murder, Lieutenant Colonel Ramendu Upadhyay, is posted in Clementtown, Dehradun and is already married and has a one and a half year old child. This whole matter is of illicit love affair.
Police had formed 4 teams to solve this case. In which the first team thoroughly interrogated the people living near the spot. The second team checked the CCTV cameras installed on the roads to the spot. The third team went to Judio brand showroom Jakhan and Kishannagar Chowk to get information about the dress worn by the deceased. The fourth team took necessary action to identify the deceased.
The police team found that 8 dresses of that article had been sold from both the showrooms, information regarding which was obtained. On interrogating the people around the spot, information was received that the villager’s car had last entered the area around 11.00 pm in the night. The police team checked about 240 vehicles from 11 pm to 4 am. The numbers of 18 four-wheelers and addresses of the vehicle owners were obtained.
One vehicle was found to be in the name of Ramendu Upadhyay and on ascertaining its details, the vehicle owner’s mobile phone was switched off during the incident. During the incident, it was found that there was an extra time of about 42 minutes in the time taken to reach from Maharana Pratap Chowk to Thano Chowk, on which the police team took the vehicle owner Ramendu Upadhyay into custody and interrogated him.
Accused Ramendu Upadhyay confessed his crime. Police also recovered a mobile phone from the accused which was found to have a photo of Ramendu Upadhyay with the deceased and was found to be talking from the mobile number of the deceased. During interrogation, the accused told that he had met Shreya Sharma, a girl of Nepali origin, at the dance bar City Center Siliguri. He liked Shreya Sharma very much. I met Shreya as a friend and after that we developed a mutual relationship. We both lived in Siliguri like husband and wife. I used to bear all the expenses of Shreya.
He said, “When I was posted in Dehradun, I brought Shreya along with me to Dehradun. When my wife came to know about this, I sent Shreya back to Siliguri after keeping her in a hotel for a few days. I called her to Dehradun again and talked to her for some time. After spending the day in a hotel, I rented a flat in Clemsontown and kept her there. After staying for a few days, she started pressurizing me to give her the status of her wife and started abusing me there for this. She asked me to drink alcohol. And she used to order food from the hotel. I was the one who cooked, she did not know how to cook. My wife also came to know about my coming and going to the flat almost every day. Shreya used to misbehave with me continuously. And used to abuse me. She used to say that you have spoiled my life and have kept me like a mistress. We used to fight over this issue of marrying me.”
He further told that last few days Shreya had a fight with my wife. I was in a state of confusion as to what to do, I was very upset. So I planned to kill him.
He further said, “Shreya and I went to a club on Rajpur Road to have beer. Where we drank alcohol at night, I made her drink more alcohol and drank less alcohol myself, then I asked her to go for a long drive. I I also kept some beer and liquor in the car. Then I took my car on the way to the forest. There was a hammer in my car. Shreya, under the influence of alcohol, was asking me to have physical relations in the car and started taking off her clothes. As part of the plan, I took out the hammer I kept in the back seat of my car and hit Shreya hard on the head. When she died, I took the car a little further and threw her on the side.”
