Army Colonel Beaten Up, Robbed In Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, Two Held
A serving Army colonel was allegedly beaten up and robbed of his belongings by three people in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday (September 13) night.
Identified as Vinit Mehta (49), the victim had reportedly gone to Triveni Complex in Malviya Nagar after attending a seminar at Taj Hotel to drop a friend. On his way back, Mehta reportedly stopped by at a nearby petrol station
when a person came towards him and asked for a lighter to light a cigarette.
When Mehta mentioned that he did not have a lighter, the accused allegedly hurled expletives at him and suddenly attacked him with a sharp object.
According to the police, two other persons joined the accused in assaulting the victim until he fell unconscious. Cops added that after a few hours, when the victim regained consciousness, he found that his two mobile phones, credit card, voter ID card and Rs 10,000 cash were missing.
Subsequently, a complaint was lodged at Malviya Nagar police station and officials made two arrests in this case. Those arrested have been identified as Mithun (22) and Mukul (28), and two mobile phones have been recovered from their possession.
The third accused in this case, identified as Bobby, is still at large. Law enforcement officials have charged the three accused under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The victim, who has sustained injuries in the head, hand and elbow, is presently receiving treatment in the Army Hospital, cops said.
“We have registered a case of robbery in the matter and also recovered a few stolen items. Further legal proceedings are underway,” said Chandan Chadhury, DCP (South), Delhi Police.
