Britain beats France 2-1 in thrilling doubles match, makes place in Davis Cup quarter-finals

Manchester (IANS). There was a tough competition between Britain and France in an exciting match. However, Daniel Evans and Neal Skupski performed brilliantly in the decisive doubles match to take Britain into the Davis Cup quarter-finals.

Evans and Skupski saved four match points to secure a hard-fought 1-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(6) victory over the French on Sunday, while Britain beat France 2-1.

The win gives Britain top spot in Group B and secures their place in the last-eight weekend in November in Málaga, where a quarter-final against Italy or Novak Djokovic’s Serbia awaits.

Daniel Evans and Neal Skupski struggled against their opponents early on, but gained momentum as the match progressed. Although they were unable to break the French pair in the first two sets, the British pair stepped up their game during the tie-break and managed to level the score.

World number 27 Evans was competing in his 25th Davis Cup tie and was tied with third-ranked Andy Murray for the most appearances by a British player.

Ugo Humbert then equalized by defeating Cameron Norrie 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-5 in two hours and 47 minutes, meaning the doubles match would decide who would advance to the last-eight.
