Glass bangles made from liquor bottles are attracting women in Saras Fair, handicrafts also fascinate them

Patna (IANS). People are arriving at the seven-day Bihar Saras Mela at Gyan Bhawan in Patna, the capital of Bihar, and buying their favorite things. The favorite thing for the women visiting the fair is glass bangles made from liquor bottles. Whereas, many visitors are also fascinated by the handicraft artefacts.

This fair was inaugurated on Wednesday. Jeevika Rural Development Department organizes Bihar Saras Mela to promote rural crafts, entrepreneurship and folk art. It was inaugurated by Rural Development Department Minister Shravan Kumar.

Secretary of Rural Development Department, Dr. N. Sarwan Kumar said that Saras Fair is a great medium to sell rural crafts and products. People are liking the bangles made from liquor bottles in the fair.

Suman Devi, a resident of Sabalpur, Patna, has prepared bangles from liquor bottles. He told that these bangles were given different types of designs. They have bangles ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 150. Many women of Patna are making such bangles today.

In this fair, women artisans associated with self-help groups from 21 states including Bihar have set up 135 stalls related to the culture, tradition and crafts of their respective regions. These include 22 stalls of local cuisine of Bihar, 34 stalls of handicrafts, 12 stalls of handloom and 4 stalls of handmade products.

Mamta Devi, a resident of Samastipur, has reached the fair with products made of bamboo, while Shankar Amma from Andhra Pradesh has reached the fair with her Charm Chitrakara (painting made on leather).

In this fair, under one roof, you will find jute products made from Araria and wooden products from Arwal are also available. Designer bangles from Aurangabad, silk products from Banka and lacquer products from Gaya have also come to this fair.
