60 page synopsis against 5 page order of High Court, Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs 25 thousand
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on a plaintiff seeking permission to file a voluminous synopsis of more than 60 pages against the five-page order of the Allahabad High Court. Justice Abhay S. A bench of Justice Oka and Justice Pankaj Mittal ordered the petitioner to pay Rs 25,000 by way of donation to any organization doing charitable work. The petitioner filed an application against the High Court order rejecting the anticipatory bail, seeking permission to file a lengthy synopsis and list of dates. The Supreme Court said that a synopsis of more than 60 pages was “unnecessary” to the facts of the case, when the High Court order was only five pages long. “Therefore, we reject the application and while doing so, we direct the petitioner to pay Rs 25,000 by way of donation to any institution carrying out charitable work by the next date of hearing,” the court ordered. First a receipt should be produced.” Earlier in August, the same bench had stressed that long synopses should be avoided in petitions filed before the apex court. The bench’s observation was in another case in which the special leave petition filed against a disputed six-page order of the High Court had 27 pages and a synopsis of more than 60 pages.
