Britain: Gurdwara Committee condemns Khalistanis for stopping Indian ambassador

London: Glasgow Guru Granth Sahib Gurdwara has ‘strongly’ condemned the attempt by pro-Khalistan extremists to prevent Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami from entering an event at the Gurdwara. In a statement issued on Saturday, the gurdwara said it “strongly condemns such behavior to disrupt the peaceful proceedings of a Sikh place of worship”. It said, “The Gurudwara is open to people of all communities and backgrounds, and we openly welcome all in accordance with the principles of our faith.”
In a viral video of the incident, which took place on Albert Drive on Friday, some pro-Khalistan activists came near Doraiswami’s car and asked him to leave. The two-day personal visit by a member of the Scottish Parliament reportedly included a series of meetings and discussions with local political leaders, expatriate representatives, business heads and university groups. “After some unidentified persons from outside the Glasgow area attempted to disrupt the visit, the visiting party decided to leave the premises. After the visitors left, these unruly persons harassed the Gurdwara congregation,” the statement said. It added that Police Scotland attended the incident and have taken cognizance of the matter. The Indian High Commission on Saturday said it had reported the “derogatory incident” to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police. The incident comes in the wake of the diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Canada-based pro-Khalistan fundamentalist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
